This American Bittern was lurking in the brown reeds of the Oceanside Marine Nature Study Area ("MNSA"). I've never seen one before here or any where else. Lifer. It is so well camouflaged that it had to be pointed out to me by another photographer. And even when you know where it is, it's remarkable how well it blends in. Bitterns are in the family of birds that include Herons and Egrets.
